Psychological Dimension of AI@Work
AI technology advances at a seemingly limitless pace. Yet it is still humans who have to work with these systems, trust them (or not), question them, and live with their consequences. In this talk, I show why psychology is central to the successful use of AI at work. Taking a self-determination theory perspective, I focus on three basic psychological needs (competence, autonomy, and relatedness) and show how AI can challenge each of them. Along these dimensions, I present research from our lab that illustrates the effects AI can have on people at work, and discuss what this means for designing and implementing AI systems.
